Since our last newsletter of October 2009 our activities have included various stimulating talks: Alec Leggatt on Construction Projects and the Hindhead Tunnel, Liz Lang ex Chaplain Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice on Chaplaincy, Canon Derek Holbird Director of Education Diocese of Guildford on Faith-based Schools, and Michael Irwin on “Old age rational suicide” at our February AGM (see below). We’ve also treated ourselves to a delicious annual dinner, discussed fascinating “moral maze” dilemmas and hosted a public debate on the motion “Britain should become a secular state”. Read more…


NEWSLETTER October 2009

Since our April newsletter our various activities have included two local rambles with pub lunches, a stall at the Charities Fair in Gostrey Meadow (our cardboard Charles Darwin managed to stay standing despite the rain), fascinating talks on Erasmus Darwin, Infinity, Why humanists should not believe in representative democracy, Sea of Faith and Humanist ceremonies. Our mid Summer party was a great success kindly hosted by Meg Howson in her delightful English cottage garden with strawberries, croquet and many culinary delights provided by members. Read more…



Since our December newsletter Joe Ansah has talked to us about adoption: reality and practice, Jim Herrick led a discussion on censorship, Andrew Copson the BHA Education Officer gave us an update on the BHA’s campaigns at our AGM and we indulged in our annual dinner. Read more…
